My new passion is my motorcycle, Vrrronica. Yes, she has a name (thanks to my daughter). She’s a Honda VTX 1300, which is a rather large bike. I’ve primarily ridden ATVs and have minimal experience on road bikes, though I owned one years and years ago. In this case she’s a “cruiser,” low slung (for my short legs) and a beautiful sunburst orange.
The photo on the right is my "little" girl. Noelle who named Vrrronica.
As I stated, I have minimal road bike experience, and being a very cautious person, I decided to take the Motorcycle Riders Foundation’s safety course. Poor Vrrronica sat in my garage for two weeks before she had a mile on her. But, I promised my wife (and myself) that I would complete the course before setting out on the open road.
I recommend the riding course to anyone looking to ride a motorcycle (or scooter) as the instruction includes skill building, awareness, and defensive riding. I'll cover the course in my next blog...

Mario I love your new bike! I personally am a little scared of motorcycles. I this is because every boyfriend I have had that has a motorcycle thinks it is funny to go really fast on them. I never understood what is wrong with just taking a nice, slow, enjoyable ride. Also, a friend of mine was killed on her motorcycle - she left behind 3 children. So sad. Sorry, I don't mean to be "Debbie Downer". On a happy note, my grandfather and I took many really fun rides on his motorcycle in the past. I will never forget riding with Grandpa. He had a really neat radio on it and I loved listening to the radio while taking a ride. Good times. You better be careful, I think your daughter may want one of her own. She looks like she likes it pretty well! Anyway, Vrrronica is beautiful and I'm sure you'll all have a lot of fun with her.
Oh yeah, Vrrrronica's looking mighty fine. I don't know how you resisted the temptation of mounting her before the ceremonial training class. It's best that you learn how to properly handle something so delicate. A lot of experts suggest easing into it, "know before you go." Some people who don't wait, who are too selfish and rush into it, end up in trouble and maybe crash and burn. Good luck, Mario. We're proud of you for waiting. It makes for a long healthy relationship. Remember: Never share such a prized possession.
